Theodore Kuckelkorn recently announced that he is leaving his legal duties and will be leaving AFM on October 15, 2015. He will not be involved in the supervision of financial institutions.

After a career with McKinsey, keen to explore the public sector and upholding his reputation as independent thinker, Theodor took an unexpected path. He joined the newly created conduct of business regulator, the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).
Shaping the organization in all aspects, he transformed it from 100 people overseeing 300 firms to a fully-fledged conduct regulator overseeing over 14,000 firms and employing 600 people. His highly competent and authentic leadership has placed AFM as an acknowledged leading regulator and a respected authority providing a moral compass to the industry.
Theodor’s lead brought the fair treatment of customers squarely on the CEO agenda’s. It also brought the AFM at the forefront of regulators working on Consumer Protection. As a result he was elected Chairman of the G20 / OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection. Under his leadership the Task Force was revitalized and was commended by the G20 leaders.
He took care of his wife and four children during the illness of his wife. He wrote a book on regulation (‘Toezicht als Beroep’). After the successful treatment of his wife’s illness, he returned to professional life as a partner with McKinsey & Company.
