Answer Hackers take advantage of website writing errors to steal cryptocurrency
Writing a website address name incorrectly can be dangerous for a digital wallet.
The hackers have created a network of domains laced with malware that take advantage of users’ typing errors when accessing a specific website.
According to a report by sibela cybersecurity and digital risk assessment company, these domains mimic popular organizations and applications, such as Google Play Store, Apkure, and Apkcombo, among others.
Users who visit these domains are prompted to download an app, but it’s usually an app that’s a miner and is equipped to attack users’ data.
After the application is installed, the target device of the victim, whether it is an Android phone or a Windows computer, is infected with ERMAC virus, which is a Trojan horse that allows threat actors to access many important private data in the target device, including private keys.

The banking Trojan was first discovered in 2021 and now targets more than 460 apps, allowing attackers to rent its services for $5,000 a month.
Hackers are targeting more prominent websites and brands:
While the aforementioned report only found evidence of counterfeiting a small group of apps and brands, further investigations by another security source confirmed that at least 27 brands and app names are targeted by this type of attack.
Among these targeted applications are TikTok, Vidmate, Snapchat, PayPal and more development-focused applications such as Notepad+ and Tor Browser.
Cryptocurrency wallets, mining and related websites are also on the target list of hackers.
Metamask, Phantom, Cosmos Wallet, and Ethermine are also part of the target group.
Each of these fake domains has different domains registered, to increase the possibility of the victim being attacked.
The Cybel report makes various recommendations for avoiding this type of attack, including having an effective antivirus that protects your phone and computer, and monitoring your wallets and bank accounts regularly.
